Rewards Cards Reign

We have been traveling a lot recently, which has kept me on the hunt for great deals.  But for this post, I want to highlight two others who have certainly achieved the deal of the week!

A few weeks ago, we were visiting Mom and Dad in St. Louis.  We had a fun-filled day despite the rainy and cold weather.  Caught a Cardinals game during the day and then headed out to their favorite casino to show us where they hang their hats for entertainment.

There are a few restaurants in the casino, but one in particular is set up as a buffet.  Now this was the buffet of all buffets, we’re talking Jimmy Buffett proportions! :)

It had a few different kinds of steak, crab legs, Chinese food, pizza, salad bar, veggie bar, a dessert bar to die for - it was simply amazing!  I knew this wasn’t going to be cheap, but my parents said they were going to treat us to it.  Little did I know, Dad had the deal of the week up his sleeve!  As with most every deal I get, Dad had a rewards card for the casino.  Rewards cards are the way to go.  Even if you don’t think you’ll use it often, they are typically free (I never pay for a rewards program) and even if you don’t spend the amount you need for their rewards kick back, you usually receive coupons or other such items.  Because of Dad’s rewards card at the casino, dinner was on the casino less $8 and the tip for the waitress!  Unbelievable!  So….a $112 dinner for 4 was $8.  Nice work Dad, nice work….so proud of you! :)  [and dinner was wonderful too!]

The second shout out deal of the week goes to Gary.  I am lucky that he is so awesome about doing the grocery shopping, etc for us.  It takes another chore off my list!  Again, we have the Kroger rewards card for the store.  [In addition to the card offering discounts off food items, it also offers discounts on gas at their gas pumps and who doesn’t love discounts on gas since the price seems to keep creeping higher and higher!]  They also have digital coupons that you go online and load to your card.  Lately I have been receiving free items on the card too.  So for this trip we had a free dozen eggs, free bag of chips, free bag of bagels, and a free box of granola bars.  In addition to all of this, we had regular coupons and savings in the store because of the Kroger card, so in total the grocery bill would have been $55 and yet Gary paid only $32 for it!

It is such a thrill to save so much!
